Penguin Boldness

Last night, while watching National Geographic, which I only do if my dad already has it on the television when I arrive 😂,  I watched an episode with six penguins who stumbled upon a beach filled with sea lion after sea lion. They were literally laying side by side, like Tex-Mex enchiladas on a plate.

Since sea lions are the natural predators of penguins, they all just paused for a moment realizing their conundrum if they were ever going to pass that beach to get to the ocean that they were so desperately wanting to get to.
They had traveled long and hard, and they were tired, but they NEEDED to get to that ocean.

Then something cool happened, while 5 froze in fear, one just ran for it. He charged right through the middle of the plethora of sea lions. They were flopping their blubbery bodies about trying to pin him in, but the brave champion just continued to bucket along through the crowd, and then the camera lost sight of him.

I, the one who chooses to normally not watch these predator-eats-his-prey-while-cameras-film-it-all shows, started to tear up. I felt so sorry for this penguin that I hadn’t even known just three minutes prior, but now, I wanted this unlikely underdog to win. I think I connected with him, as many of us do, and suddenly, I found myself yelling at the TV, “Fight, little guy! Fight!”

My mom laughed. “Misty, this is normal. It’s just nature.”

Then something AMAZING happened. That tiny penguin, pinned in by forty or more sea lions, popped up over their heads. Their jaws snapped, but he pecked back, and then he began to just walk. Those short little legs waddled ON TOP of his enemies all the way to the ocean, until he kerplunked into the ocean.

I rose to my feet and roared.IMG_20200202_075838381_BURST000_COVER~2“YES! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!”

Then it got really good; because, the other five gained courage and followed suit. They all ran for it. The cool part was that they had so much boldness that they started off pecking and hopped on their enemies’ backs. They made it even quicker than their fearless leader because he’d already prepared the way, and  not even one was defeated. They ALL made it to their destination and, enjoying their victory, floated away in the cool relaxing water.

This morning during my prayer time, the Lord reminded me of this show, which I would have never watched on my own, but He placed it there to say to me, “I am preparing the way for you. Don’t worry. Don’t fear. Just follow me.”

“I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron bars.  I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden wealth of secret places, So that you may know that it is I, The Lord , the God of Israel, who calls you by your name.
Isaiah 45:2‭-‬3 NASB

Today, even in the face of lions, may we have boldness and courage to do ALL God has for us because He has already prepared the way. Don’t fear, just follow.
