The Sabbath

Thank you, Jesus, for a day off yesterday! My kids did the cooking, and my sweet husband Joe did the cleaning for the day. He even folded all the laundry.

On the other hand, I got to take a long warm bath and go on a dinner date with my husband. It was FABULOUS!

Joe has been getting on to me for not taking a day off in over 2 weeks…yeah, taking that Sabbath that God commands, like I preach about to others…guilty.🙋‍♀️😏

At times, I think we all get so busy that we start questioning whether we HAVE time to obey that particular commandment set by God, or maybe we just forget about it all together.

I was planning English lessons, grading homework, and teaching. I was homeschooling my boys and grading homework. I was planning Bible lessons for the village, translating songs into their language, creating posters with the song lyrics, teaching lessons, or hugging and holding village kids. I was cleaning house and cooking meals.

My bath time shrank to quick showers, and for those of you that remember, those long baths in essential oils aren’t just for relaxation; they are to help kill the skin bugs I often collect from the village where we minister.😳

So, Sunday morning, I woke up, and guess what? Yep, covered in bites from skin bugs. Joe finally said, “Babe, that is enough! You try to take care of everyone else, but what everyone else really needs is a HEALTHY you.”

So, I repented and asked God to forgive me for being so stubborn instead of obeying, and then, I did it. I took my Sabbath. It was WONDERFUL! I spent time with my husband, got my relaxing bath, watched a movie, and listening to my kids tell me funny stories. I laughed so hard. Our kiddos are hilarious!😂🤣😂 With my husband, I had a great dinner, after which I did NOT have to wash the dishes. 👐HALLELUJAH!!!👐

I am so very grateful God forgives our disobedience and hard-headedness. I am reading the book of Hebrews this morning and spending time with Jesus. Then, I will head off to teach English at the Bible school.

The enemy keeps bringing to mind all I have to get done before we leave on our trip in a few weeks, and, on top of my regular busy schedule, I have 2…TWO…birthday cakes to bake in there somewhere (Our oldest will be turning 21 years old and our middle will turn 16).

But, as I spend time with Jesus this morning, I feel a peace and a calm, not overwhelmed or running on fumes like before. He reminds me that He will only give me what I am able to accomplish WITH Him, and to do that I have to do it HIS way.

I have to trust that between now and then, if I am obedient to not only do my daily prayer and Bible time, but ALSO, KEEP THAT SABBATH DAY OF REST…that God will work it all out, and I don’t have to be Supergirl. That’s not my job.

I need to let Him be Super God, and I need to just remain faithful, obedient me.😁 I am still a work in progress, and I am humbled and grateful that He is still willing to work on me.🥰

I hope this speaks to some of you busy moms out there. Your family needs a healthy you, and that cannot come about without a Sabbath rest, and while we rest, we need to leave everything else in God’s hands. He is faithful with it when WE are faithful to release it.😘

1 Peter 5:7 NIV
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Hebrews 4:9 NASB
Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
